In a career spanning more than two decades, Brian Hickman has created a space for himself as a pianist and respected music educator with a passion for service to his community. He earned his Bachelor of Music from Jackson State University and Master of Music from Mississippi College, receiving highest honors from both institutions. He has taught in colleges, public schools, and community music schools across the United States.
Mr. Hickman performs a wide range of repertoire for solo piano with a particular interest in the music of France and contemporary composers. He is also an experienced collaborative pianist working with singers and instrumentalists of all skill levels.
As a performing artist, he is highly regarded for his uniquely expressive approach to music making — combining emotional acuity, clarity, delicacy, and power — to marvelous effect.
Mr. Hickman's love for the arts and humanities influences how he performs and teaches, leading him to create musical and educational experiences that engage the mind as well as the heart.
In his spare time, Brian enjoys hiking, traveling, and experiencing art. He also loves reading — especially philosophy, poetry, history, and fiction.
